This is going to be a short article today but packed
with some solid tips that I hope will give you pause for
thought. I say short, because as I write this I am
migrating data from my Macintosh PowerBook laptop
because the hard drive on it is in a near-failure
state. The machine is over three years old and I’m told
that it is about time for a hard drive replacement, but
that somehow doesn’t make it any less problematic to be
laptopless (that sounds sexual doesn’t it?) for a few days,
working off of a desktop machine…

I’m not sure how much truth there is to it, but one of
the techs at Apple told me that with all hard drives –
PC and Mac – if you use your laptop on a bus or train
that is bumpy, this puts extra wear and tear on your
hard drive that shortens the lifespan of the hard
drive.

This makes perfect sense to me but
