A federal judge blocked a controversial Mississippi law that would’ve allowed businesses to deny services to gay people based on religious beliefs.

So, at best, the Mississippi governor and legislature were so stupid that they thought the law they wasted so much time on was actually constitutional. At worst, they knew it was unconstitutional, would not pass muster, and used it as yet another stunt on the part of extreme right-wing Republicans to rile up and distract the impoverished, underemployed, under-educated, undernourished, under-Medicaid-ed, and otherwise deliberately deprived citizens of Mississippi.
