Ready To Make A Big Difference In Ridding Our Corrupt Government Of Corporate Money Forever?? Sign our petition and help us start a Move to Amend affiliate in Jackson, Mississippi! ๐ Hello, fellow progressives! ๐ You may remember my mentioning an organization called Move to Amend. I have worked with them in the past and continue to work with them in establishing a Move to Amend affiliate in Jackson, Mississippi. I'm writing this to you in hopes that some of you will be interested enough in this issue that you would consider signing the petition for the We the People Amendment and to assist in getting a local MTA affiliate started in Central Mississippi. You can read more information yourself at the links I'll provide at the end of this message but I will now give you a summary of what I'm talking about. Move to Amend is an organization that was started as a direct response to the US Supreme Court's decision on Citizens United, a verdict that allowed corporate money to flood our election system and influence our government at every level. Move to Amend suggests that the only way to permanently rid our system of government, our very democracy, of unelected influence by corporations and ultra-wealthy individuals is by passing a constitutional amendment. The We the People Amendment is the constitutional amendment that MTA is promoting and one that I am asking you to give your approval. A Princeton University study, for one, has shown very clearly that since at least 1970, the legislation and public policy that has been enacted by the governments of the United States of America deviate sharply from the will and sentiments of the people who live in the United States of America, its citizens, We the People. And it is We the People who have the rights guaranteed and enumerated in part by our Constitution and its amendments; it is not the corporations who have these rights. The We the People Amendment seeks to affirm this fact in our Constitution in order to put any doubt to rest and to allow our democracy to continue to develop, mature, and reach the state that our founding fathers hoped and intended it to. If you are interested in signing the petition and getting this going please contact me at ali@jacksonprogressives.us and tell me so.ย Please also include your full name, e-mail address, postal address, and a good phone number and I will add you to our growing list. Also, I'm delighted to announce that we have partnered with Mississippi Rising Coalition in establishing MTA affiliates in both central Mississippi and the coast, and hopefully elsewhere!ย Thank you for reading!!! Please let me know if you have any questions or would like to discuss this with me directly. Peace, love, and progress, Ali
If you were a progressive-minded human being in Jackson, Mississippi, where would you like to hang out?
There’s Fondren, the woods, strip malls, the suburbs, downtown, Flowood….
Hello,ย comrades!ย ๐
I updated our calendar recently and that might have generated a lot of e-mail or app notification noise for you.ย I apologize for that if so.
It appeared that along the way there were created duplicate calendar events.ย I removed them but I wanted to ensure that everyone knows *we are still having weekly happy hours*!ย ๐ย And I use “happy hour” loosely.ย Feel free to drink or not drink, eat or not eat.ย The point is just to hang out in a friendly environment with people you might not otherwise hang out with but share a lot of your values.
I worked withย Hal & Mal’sย to come up with dates for our next three movie nights: September 13, October 18, and November 22.ย Please attend and enjoy some thought-provoking media with your progressive sisters and brothers!
I think that’s it.
By the way, because we are aย 501(c)(4)ย social welfare organizationย donationsย are *not* tax deductible.ย But I encourage you to do it anyway!ย ๐
Peace, love, and imagination,
Ali
