Initiatives Internet Rediscover the World Wide Web! :-) Society and WordPress have almost made it work . . . but not yet.

I feel like it’s amateur hour all over the Web these days. Why would you roll out an integration that doesn’t work with existing accounts unless you were just desperate to launch something new? Are you trying to justify your salary? Are you trying to beat someone to the punch? Are you trying to be all AGILE and shit? I think this beta mentality, that polish and finish isn’t required, has had its day. How about you act like professionals and do the job the right way??? :-))))))) That would be nice. Thank you.

My letter to WordPress about their perceived degradation of quality over the last year

I was initially very pleased with my experience with WordPress, both the mobile app and browser app, primarily. I found it to be very mature and feature rich and intuitive. As I’ve used it over the last year I’ve come to see it as being more unreliable, with lots of tiny regressions, and it seems like there is a rush to push out changes too quickly without enough quality control, which seems like a mortal sin these days with all of the ways to automatically check for regressions and functionality.

I hope you will prioritize quality in your future development.

Chinese coeds intent on flattening bell curve, or else! 😉

TIL that cheating is so acceptable in China that the people will riot if not allowed to do so. Over 2000 people barricaded school staff while chanting "There is no fairness if you do not let us cheat" after students were confiscated of their cheats. from todayilearned

When test results supersede knowledge and comprehension, maybe? 🤔 Also maybe a case of quality versus quantity?

Have we forgotten the true meaning of Labor Day?

The holiday began as a strike against excessive workweeks but now bears little resemblance to its worker-centric origins, even as the founders’ gains are slowly lost.

In Amsterdam, Even The Tourists Say There Are Too Many Tourists : NPR

When you do things right this is what happens. 🙂 The price of success, maybe? Too bad the rest of us don’t brighten up and take the load off poor Amsterdam.

Mr. Show with Bob and David

What a gem of our culture this show is.  I’m still struck by how smart, sharp, well executed it is.  It really is exemplary in so many ways.  I hope things like these are not lost on later generations given the immense increase in the amount of media produced.  My fear is that the sheer volume of worthless content and the marketing machines behind it will completely obscure things of quality given enough time.  Is that irrational to think?
