What is a song, after all? What makes a song a song? What is the essence of the song? I think it’s just that thing out there that you appreciate for what it is and enjoy it!!! Or you don’t like it and you want it to go away. I do, anyway. I’m a very harsh music critic. I think it’s because my ears are so sensitive, delicate and fragile. 🙂 That’s part of it. But it’s also about how it strikes you. That’s what it comes down to, it seems; whatever we conceive of as “music appreciation” or “liking a song” is the intersection of your life, that moment you hear the song, and the multitude of things that begat the songwriter’s product.
